Sara Fowles is an artist and maker from Birmingham, UK.  Sara originally trained as a classical musician but changed careers after going back to college to study garment construction and pattern cutting.

Since 2006 Sara has run Stitches and Hos, originally a social knit night held in the back room of a pub.  It has now grown to encompass all of the strands of her creative practice, including Yarningham Festival.

Sara is passionate about taking time and care to create things with her hands.  She has always been fascinated by stitch in all it’s forms, especially hand knitting.  She believes that this skill and craft can be used to challenge perceptions, strengthen agency and enrich lives.

Sara’s talk will focus on the evolution of Yarningham Festival, including the necessary changes implemented to survive the pandemic which gave birth to Yarn + Stitch Magazine.
