Estelle was raised on the southern tip of Sweden before spending her teens and twenties moving around Europe, through London and Wales, eventually settling in beautiful Scotland.  Along the way she set up the online yarn shop, Midwinter Yarns, a company that specialises in natural fibre yarns of Nordic origin and beyond.  The goal of the company was to share some of the Scandinavian love for hand crafts, knitting and natural materials that Estelle was brought up with, and share a few of those traditional with the wider world.

Estelle’s talk will focus on Hönsestrik, a knitting style that originated in 1970s Denmark as a form of feminism and anti-capitalist protest.  Bright and colourful, Hönsestrik encourages the knitter to free themselves from the constraints of traditional commercial patterns and instead allows a free flow of creativity and self-expression through the making of your own garments.
